Vol. 385 No. 6

Written Answers. - Glendalough (Wicklow) Nature Reserves.

165.

asked the Minister for Finance the steps he is taking to extend the two nature reserves at Glendalough, County Wicklow into a national park, as promised by the Taoiseach when he opened the Glendalough visitors centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Discussions are taking place between the Commissioners of Public Works and the Forest Service of the Department of Energy with a view to agreeing on the unplanted areas in the ownership of the Forest Service which will be included with the two nature reserves at Glendalough in the proposed Wicklow National Park. The next step will be to undertake a study to define the total area of the proposed park and to make proposals for submission to Government in relation to the establishment of the park. This study will be commenced shortly.
