Vol. 385 No. 8

Written Answers - Kings Cross, London, Report.

18.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport whether, in the light of the Kings Cross Report, he has satisfied himself that all necessary regulations have been put in place in Ireland to ensure that such an occurrence cannot happen here.

The report of the investigation into the King's Cross underground fire is an important document and my Department is examining it in conjunction with Iarnrod Éireann and other relevant agencies to ascertain whether there is any need to change Irish requirements in the interest of fire prevention and safety on our railway system.

In the meantime I should point out that there are no underground stations and no wooden escalators on Iarnrod Éireann's railway system.
