Vol. 387 No. 1

Written Answers. - Doctors' GMS Contract.

110.

asked the Minister for Health if he will publish the full terms, details and costings of the new General Medical Service contract for general practitioners operating under the General Medical Service.

I have made arrangements for a copy of the new terms and conditions to be sent to the Deputy. Health boards have now issued all those doctors participating in the GMS scheme with a copy of the agreement containing the new terms and conditions.

As mentioned in the House previously, the new terms and conditions contained in the agreement are primarily based on a capitation method of remuneration with the addition of a limited range of payments based on a fee-per-item method.

The costs associated with the new agreement are estimated to be of the order of £50 million, in a full year and will be met, in the normal way, from the overall funding made available for the General Medical Services (Payments) Board.
