Vol. 387 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funds.

23.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the situation which has arisen in Baileboro' community school, County Cavan where the parents' committee's development of a field for sporting activities has resulted in their being in debt; if she will grant them financial aid through the national lottery; whether she is aware that these people are being penalised because of their initiative; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Bailieboro' community school wrote to my Department on 27 January 1988, requesting assistance towards the further development of their sportsfield.

However, the capital grants scheme for the provision of recreational facilities is restricted to projects undertaken and owned by voluntary community organisations.

Under the ordinary capital programme for second level education facilities, my Department have already contributed £6,500 to the development of the sports field at the school, which is in accordance with the normal scale of assistance accorded by my Department to such developments at community schools.
