Vol. 387 No. 2

Written Answers. - Gaelic Sports Grant.

24.

asked the Minister for Education if she will make a direct grant to Coiste Sciath na Scol Chorcaí, the umbrella body of teachers who wish to promote Gaelic games, as is done in the case of the mini sport movement.

Cumann Lúthchleas Gael is recognised by my Department as the national governing body for the promotion of Gaelic games and receives an annual grant from my Department. This grant is expended on a number of constituent bodies of the association which are involved in the promotion of Gaelic games among various groups, including Bord Lúthchleas Gael na mBunscoileanna, the organisation which promotes Gaelic games at primary school level. In the circumstances, I am not prepared to provide direct grant aid to Coiste Sciath na Scol Chorcaí. It is open to Coiste Sciath na Scol Chorcaí to apply directly to Cumann Lúthchleas Gael for funds in respect of its activities, if it has not already done so.

The Irish Mini Sport Movement is recognised as a governing body of sport and is in receipt of an annual grant from my Department on the same basis as other governing bodies of sport.
