asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the growing number of schools which fulfil all the conditions and requirements for the appointment of permanent teachers to whom the Department have refused to sanction the positions proposed.

asked the Minister for Education the number of temporary teachers filling positions in primary schools where she has refused to sanction permanent appointments even though the school fulfil all the conditions and requirements for permanent appointments; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 28 and 92 together.

There are 32 teachers currently sanctioned in a temporary capacity in permanent posts under the circumstances referred to by the Deputies. These cases are being reviewed at present, and the school authorities involved will be advised of the outcome.
