asked the Minister for Education the percentage of increase/ decrease in the number of teachers allocated to Kildare Vocational Education Committee for the years 1985 to 1989 inclusive; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The following is the information requested by the Deputy in so far as the allocations in respect of full time day courses are concerned.

School Session 1986-87 — Increase of 2.8%

My Department's allocation of teaching staff to County Kildare VEC in respect of full-time day courses in the second level area for the current school session, 1988-89, includes, in addition to the posts based on the pupil/teacher ratio, provision on an ex-quota basis for ten principals, four remedial teachers, two guidance teachers, two special resource teachers for the mildly mentally handicapped and a remedial/guidance teacher allocated by my Department under the terms of Circular Letter 23/86.

The current allocation also includes five special concessionary posts which were given under the disadvantaged areas heading and a further post in respect of a single school in its catchment area.
