Vol. 387 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funds.

31.

asked the Minister for Education if she will allocate funds from the proceeds of the national lottery to the Lismore Air Club, Lismore, County Waterford for development in the interests of providing a major tourist amenity.

In 1988 an allocation of £500,000 was made available from the proceeds of the national lottery in respect of the commercial development of sport. Five specific regions were selected initally for the allocation of grant aid, towards the provision of new facilities or the expansion of existing facilities where it could be shown that such facilities would help to increase the tourist potential of the area concerned.

It is unclear at this stage whether or not funding in respect of a similar programme will be available in my Department in 1989. However, should an application be received in respect of Lismore Air Club, County Waterford, towards the cost of providing such a major tourist amenity it will be considered subject to the availability of funds.
