Vol. 387 No. 5

Written Answers. - Bilateral Aid.

47.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs, in the light of the destruction and suffering inflicted on Mozambique by the South African destabilisation programme, if he will consider making Mozambique the fifth priority country for bilateral aid and allocating to it the same amount of funds as is at present allocated to the other four countries; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is not proposed to designate a further priority country in present budgetary circumstances. However, as noted in my replies on 21 February 1989, Ireland has over the years provided assistance in several forms to Mozambique and has also contributed through the EC to the economic development of the country.
