Vol. 387 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tax Inquiries.

115.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement on problems arising in the office of the income tax inspector dealing with the former employees of a firm (details supplied); whether any official is available to deal with inquiries, especially tax rebate requests for former employees of the company concerned; if he will take the necessary steps, as a matter of urgency, to make an official available to deal with these queries; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Office of the Revenue Commissioners are affected, in common with other Government Departments, by the essential reduction in numbers and costs of the public service. The Revenue Commissioners are making every effort through redeployment and local consultation to minimise any inconvenience to taxpayers.

In the particular situation referred to the work allocation of the firm concerned was vacant for approximately ten weeks until a replacement was recently assigned to it. The taxpayers affected are now having their cases dealt with as quickly as possible and any rebate due to the individual named will be made at an early date.
