Vol. 387 No. 7

Written Answers. - Chester Beatty Library.

116.

asked the Minister for Finance if his Department will seek guidance, or consult with the Garda on the security implications of rearranging display facilities at the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin 4; the plans his Department have to carry out such reorganisation; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Garda have advised against such moves; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Decisions on rearranging or relocating display facilities at Chester Beatty Library are a matter for the library authorities. Security arrangements at the Chester Beatty Library are a matter for the library authorities to consider in consultation with the Garda authorities and the Commissioners of Public Works. The Commissioners of Public Works carry out maintenance work at the Chester Beatty Library and also carry out other works on request subject to availability of resources. In the carrying out of any works, security factors which the commissioners consider should be addressed would be brought to the attention of the library authorities.

The commissioners have received a request to rearrange some display facilities and this is under consideration at present. The commissioners are not aware of the attitude of the Garda to any proposals to relocate display facilities but in view of the information contained in this question the Garda will be specifically consulted in this case.
