Vol. 388 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fishing Licences Issued.

98.

asked the Minister for the Marine the number of P or composite licences issued for (a) 1988 and (b) 1989.

The fisheries boards who have primary responsibility for the conservation, development and protection of inland fisheries arrange for the sale of rod angling licences through a network of distributors throughout their regions. Precise details of sales etc. in 1989 will be supplied in accordance with established practice by individual regional fisheries boards after the end of the angling season. Because of the widespread location of licence distributors and the difficulty of obtaining reliable comparable data, it has not been the practice for the fisheries boards to make returns on the sales of licences, etc. on an ongoing basis during the angling season.

A total of 1,290 composite angling licences were sold in 1988. The data sought by the Deputy in relation to the 1989 season will be supplied in due course in accordance with the usual practice.
