Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grant Applicant.

265.

asked the Minister for Education having regard to the information submitted to Kildare County Council, if a person (details supplied) in County Kildare qualifies for a higher education grant in respect of his daughter; if there exists a uniform criterion for determination of eligibility of such grants; the standards for determining eligibility; if the person concerned has fulfilled those requirements; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

It is understood from Kildare County Council, the body statutorily entrusted with administration of the scheme in this applicant's area, that on the basis of the evidence of income submitted, the applicant is eligible to receive the maximum payable under the higher education grants scheme, i.e. category A, grant of £1,280 in respect of maintenance and other expenses and lecture fees not exceeding £1,552.

Arrangements for payment of the grant to the applicant will be made shortly by Kildare County Council.
