Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Rationalisation of District Courts.

79.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will give details of the rationalisation programme which he intends carrying out in relation to the number of District Courts in the State; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are some 250 District Court venues throughout the country and from a preliminary examination of the position I am satisfied that in present day conditions this is too many. I am, therefore, having a departmental review carried out to help in determining to what extent the number could be reduced. I expect the review to be completed in a few months and I would hope to announce my proposals soon afterwards.
