Vol. 388 No. 6

Written Answers. - Mullingar General Hospital Paediatric Unit.

79.

asked the Minister for Health when the paediatric unit of the General Hospital in Mullingar, County Westmeath, will be opened, if he will expedite this; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In the Midland Health Board's letter of allocation for 1989 a specific provision was included to enable the board to commission the phase I development.

The board have decided, on the basis of the moneys available, to transfer existing services to the new facilities in August this year. The opening of the new facilities will also enable them to relieve overcrowding problems in the hospital. The opening of the remainder of phase I, which includes the paediatric unit, is a matter in the first instance for the Midland Health Board and will be kept under review.
