Vol. 389 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pigmeat Industry Development.

48.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food whether IDA and FEOGA grant aid to pig slaughtering plants is conditional on incentive packages being put together by the slaughtering plant to expand pig numbers at farm level.

The pig slaughtering plants selected for State and FEOGA assistance under the Government's development strategy for the pigmeat industry are obliged to attain a minimum level of throughput of 6,000 pigs per week within a reasonable timescale. The achievement of this target is a matter for the individual company concerned in each case and the provision of incentive packages at farm level is one of the ways in which they can encourage the increased supply of pigs required to meet the conditions of their grant aid approval.
