Vol. 392 No. 9

Written Answers. - Extradition Warrant.

83.

asked the Minister for Justice whether any warrant exists for the extradition of a prisoner (details supplied) in Wheatfield Prison, Clondalkin, Dublin 22; and if he will consider the prisoner for early release in view of the circumstances of his case.

It is the general practice not to disclose the existence of an arrest warrant, whether for extradition or any other purpose — apart from other considerations there is the possibility that disclosure might hinder Garda action on the matter. I do not propose to depart from the practice on this occasion.

I am not prepared, having regard to all the circumstances of this case, to grant temporary release to this person at present. However, the case will be kept under review.
