Vol. 393 No. 5

Written Answers. - Education Resource Material on AIDS.

126.

asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the nature, the extent of distribution to schools and the cost of the education resource material on AIDS prepared by her Department.

The Departments of Education and Health have prepared a draft set of educational resource materials on AIDS, the purpose of which when finalised is to inform teachers in post-primary schools on this topic and to offer guidance on how such information may be integrated into school programmes. The materials have been distributed to the 20 post-primary schools taking part in a pilot project on the use of the resource pack during the current school term. The costs of the project, which is not completed yet, are being shared with the Department of Health. The costs to the Department of Education for the pilot project apart from staff costs are not expected to exceed £8,000.

The cost refers to the substitute cost for teachers attending a seminar held at the beginning of the pilot project and another to be held when the pilot project has been completed.
