Vol. 395 No. 1

Written Answers. - Site for New School.

Peter Barry

Question:

102 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that Gaelscoil an Athar Tadhg Ó Murchú, Douglas, Cork, will have to vacate the present premises in the autumn of 1991; that a site for a new school has been agreed with Cork Corporation; that if the Gaelscoil is to be in its new premises for the commencement of 1991, a decision on the purchase of the site for the building of the school will have to be taken within six weeks; and if she will authorise the release of moneys for the new site and the drawing up of plans for the new school.

My Department have been informed by the school authorities of Gaelscoil an Athar Tadhg Ó Murchú, Douglas, Cork, that their present rented accommodation will not be available for the new school term commencing September 1991. The Gaelscoil authorities have been negotiating with Cork Corporation on the acquisition of a site for a permanent school. I have arranged for my Department's architect to inspect this site at an early date to determine its suitability. The matter will then be further considered.

I fully appreciate the urgency of the case but I am sure the Deputy will accept that a number of formalities will have to be dealt with before any approach is made to Cork Corporation.
