Vol. 396 No. 1

Written Answers. - Policing In Dublin.

Austin Currie

Question:

108 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Justice the reason a letter dated 21 September, 1989 from Deputy Austin Currie on behalf of the Strawberry Beds Resident's Association, Dublin 20, concerning policing in the area and which was acknowledged by his Private Secretary on 27 September 1989, was not replied to until 31 January 1990.

An interim reply issued to the Deputy on 9 October 1989 stating that the detailed arrangements for the policing of individual areas are a matter for the Garda authorities, that the Deputy's letter had been referred to these authorities for attention and that a further letter would issue to the Deputy as soon as the Garda report on the matter was received. This in fact was done — as soon as the gardaí had made the necessary inquiries and reported to my Department, a final reply issued to the Deputy.

I should mention that the local gardaí were in touch regularly with the local residents' association during the period referred to about the policing problems which were the subject of the Deputy's representations.
