Vol. 397 No. 3

Written Answers. - Intervention Payment Period.

Seán Ryan

Question:

66 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will make a statement on the possibility that the 120 day delay in the intervention payment period might be reduced to 30 days; the steps he is taking to bring this about; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A reduction in the 120 day payment delay for payment for intervention beef is a matter for the EC Commission acting through the Beef Management Committee. In the course of the negotiations on the agricultural prices at the Council of Agriculture Ministers Ireland has pressed the Commission to reduce the payment delay. These negotiations are to be resumed on 26 March.
