Vol. 397 No. 7

Written Answers. - Planning Directives.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

86 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Environment if he will list the directives dealing with planning or related matters which he has issued to local authorities and An Bord Pleanála; the nature of these directives; and where copies may be obtained.

Using the powers contained in section 7 of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1982, the Minister may issue to planning authorities and An Bord Pleanála such general directives as to policy in relation to planning and development as he considers necessary. The following directives have been issued: the Local Government (Planning and Development) General Policy Directive, 1982 (S.I. No. 264 of 1982), relating to the establishment of a retail shopping development which would represent a large scale addition to the existing retail shopping capacity in a locality and the Local Government (Planning and Development) General Policy Directive, 1988 (S.I. No. 317 of 1988), relating to any built-up area in which the air quality standard for suspended particulates, including smoke, is being, or is likely to be, exceeded.

Copies of the directives were laid before each House of the Oireachtas when made, as required under the legislation, and copies may be obtained from the Government Publications Sale Office, price 22p and 35p, respectively.
