Vol. 397 No. 10

Written Answers. - EC Presidency Programme.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

57 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment if, in the context of the Green policy of Ireland's EC Presidency, he intends to bring forward any proposals to establish an international conference of the Irish Sea.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 47 of 14 November 1989 on a similar topic.

I am satisfied that present arrangements for consultation with the UK authorities on the Irish Sea are adequate. However, the question of achieving the most effective management strategy for the Irish Sea is being considered on an ongoing basis. In this regard, the reports to be presented by the Irish Sea Study Group to an international conference in October of this year will be particularly helpful.
