Vol. 398 No. 2

Written Answers. - Environmentally Sensitive Areas.

Brian Cowen

Question:

85 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the procedure to be adopted by his Department in relation to the designation of areas as environmentally sensitive; and if any such applications are envisaged from the Slieve Bloom area.

An interdepartmental committee under the chairmanship of my Department has been established to evaluate areas for inclusion in the environmentally sensitive areas scheme. The evaluation will have regard to the criteria laid down in EC Regulation 797/85. The coverage of the scheme will be determined by me in the light of the committee's recommendations. The Slieve Bloom area will be considered for inclusion in the scheme in the course of this procedure.
