Vol. 399 No. 2

Written Answers. - Private Forestry Grant Schemes.

Paul Bradford

Question:

36 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline the progress made in changing the administration of private forestry grant inspections; and the expected date of completion.

Steady progress is being made in preparing for the forthcoming change in the administration of the private forestry grant schemes. I am anxious that the necessary arrangements will be completed as soon as possible but it is necessary that we get it right both in regard to staffing and to implementation procedures and that we benefit to the maximum extent from our experience so far. Accordingly, despite my wish to have the new arrangements in place at the earliest possible moment, I do not consider that it would be in the best interests of private forestry to set a rigid deadline for completion of arrangements at this stage.
