Question:

29 Mr. Kavanagh asked the Minister for the Environment if, having regard to the fact that in 1987 there were 15,376 house completions in the private sector and 3,074 in the public sector, he will give the relevant figures for 1989; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The corresponding figures in respect of 1989 are: Private sector housing completions, 17,300; Public sector housing completions, 768.

Total housing completions in 1989 at 18,068, as compared with 15,654 in 1988, represented a strong reversal of the eight year decline in housing output. I expect a further increase in output in both the private and public sectors in the current year, the latter being due to the increased financial provision for local authority housing in 1990.
