Vol. 400 No. 2

Written Answers. - Fishermen's Insurance.

Michael Ferris

Question:

43 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for the Marine the level and type of insurance which is typically available to fishermen who have been unable to put to sea during the recent bad weather; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

While fishermen may take out insurance against loss of earnings due to risks such as bad weather, I understand that it is not the general practice to take out insurance and that fishermen generally are prepared to carry this risk themselves. In view of the experience earlier this year this practice may need to be reviewed.
