Vol. 400 No. 9

Written Answers. - Wind Energy Generation.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

38 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Energy if target figures have been set for the percentage of electricity generated by wind power; if he will give the target figures; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ivan Yates

Question:

48 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Energy his views on whether there is potential for wind generation in Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 38 and 48 together.

From the point of view of our wind resources, Ireland has good potential for wind energy generation. No target figure has been set for the percentage of electricity which ought to be generated from wind power. Regarding my Department's approach to the generation of electricity from wind energy, this was fully explained in my reply of 8 May 1990 to Question No. 98.
