Vol. 401 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Incinerator.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

36 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment when he will announce details of the national incinerator proposals, including the successful tenderer and the proposed location; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Joe Sherlock

Question:

68 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for the Environment when the contract for the construction of the proposed toxic incineration will be signed; if he will make a statement on the comments made in Cork on 30 April 1990 by the Minister of State at his Department that Cork will not be the location of the incinerator; if it is intended to agree on a site with the contractor, prior to signing of the contract; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 36 and 68 together. I have confirmed on a number of occasions that it will be a matter for the promoter to propose a location for this facility. I am not yet in a position to announce the selected proposal or to say when a detailed legal agreement, which will cover all aspects of the project, can be entered into. The provision of the facility will, of course, be subject to planning permission and other environmental controls in the normal way.
