Question:

39 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Health if there are any plans to provide a nursing unit in Killybegs, County Donegal; the accommodation envisaged for such a unit; the stage the planning provision for the unit is at; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Joe Sherlock

Question:

81 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Health when he will be in a position to sanction stage 2 of design documentation for the proposed community nursing unit at Killybegs, County Donegal, in order that approval to advance to stage 3 of the planning process can be given.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 24, 39 and 81 together.

The North Western Health Board regard the planning and building of the community nursing unit in Killybegs as a priority project. The accommodation envisaged comprises a 40 bed, long-stay nursing unit, a residential unit with accommodation for 20 persons and a 25 place day hospital for the elderly. The development control plan which incorporates the initial drawings and planning schedules is with my Department at present. I recognise the urgent need to provide this community nursing unit in Killybegs but a decision on the commencement of the project can only be taken in the light of the 1991 capital programme.
