Vol. 403 No. 5

Written Answers. - Cork Unemployment.

Bernard Allen

Question:

62 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement on the recent survey conducted in the Knocknaheeny/Hollyhill area of Cork city by the family ministry group which showed that half of the people in their late teens and early twenties are unemployed, and 75 per cent of those unemployed have been in that position for the last two years.

I am not familiar with the specific survey to which the Deputy refers. However, the IDA have assured me that they are fully aware of the unemployment problems in Cork city and are making every effort to redress the situation by actively promoting the area for suitable industrial development.
