Question:

76 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health the legislation he proposes to bring before the Houses of the Oireachtas in the foreseeable future; and the timescale involved.

The information sought by the Deputy is set out in the table below.

1. Public Hospitals (Amendment) Bill, 1990.

To amend the Sweepstakes Acts so that unclaimed prize money and accrued interest, totalling about £480,000, can be paid to certain former Sweepstakes employees.

Dáil passed the Bill on 27 November; the Second Stage in the Seanad Stage in the Seanad is scheduled for 5 December and it is hoped to take the remaining Stages on either the same day or shortly afterwards.

2. Child Care Bill, 1988.

To up-date the law in relation to the care of children, particularly those who have been assaulted, ill-treated, seriously neglected, sexually abused, or who are otherwise at risk.

About to commence Report Stage in the Dáil.

Legislation is currently being reviewed in other areas such as mental health, pharmacy, registration of doctors and other health professionals.
