Vol. 403 No. 5

Written Answers. - Negotiation Rights for Teachers.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

89 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if she intends to provide negotiation rights for vocational teachers on their superannuation entitlements.

Teachers employed by the vocational education committees are governed by the Local Government Superannuation Code. Negotiations in relation to that code take place through the Local Authority and Health Services Conciliation and Arbitration Scheme; the Teachers' Union of Ireland is not a party to that scheme. However, I understand that the parties to the schemes are considering a recent request to the Minister for the Environment from the Teachers' Union of Ireland for access to the scheme and a decision is expected shortly.
