Vol. 403 No. 6

Written Answers. - Birmingham Six.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

21 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to allegations that Irish representatives at the recent CSCE conference in Copenhagen were unhelpful to those pursuing the cause of the Birmingham Six; if he has held any investigation into the allegations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received a number of representations on this matter. The Irish delegation at the CSCE Conference, which took place in Copenhagen last June, met representatives of the Birmingham Six campaign who were in attendance at the conference. The delegation explained Government policy in relation to the case and our deep concern that it should be brought to an early and satisfactory conclusion. The delegation also offered to assist the campaign representatives in every appropriate way and in general was as helpful as possible.
