Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - Appointment of School Secretaries.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

382 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if it is her intention to allow a full-time school secretary to be appointed to the Assumption primary, junior boys and junior girls schools in Walkinstown, Dublin 12 as there are a total of 946 children on the rolls there and as the school did have, prior to 1987, a full-time secretary.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

387 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if she will appoint a secretary to three schools (details supplied) in Dublin 12 which had a secretary provided by her Department until 1987 when she left and which have had a FÁS trainee since, but which are now without a secretary.

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 382 and 387 together.

When the post of clerk-typist which was shared between the Assumption senior girls' school and the Assumption girls' and boys' infant schools, Walkinstown, fell vacant it was subject to the embargo on the replacement of such staff.

As the deputy will be aware, however, the Programme for Economic and Social Progress contains proposals to expand the provision of clerical services to national schools of 100 pupils upwards, on a phased basis, commencing in 1992. The position of the schools in question will be considered when the allocations for 1992 are being made in due course.
