Question:158 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice when he will approve the setting up of a second detention centre for young people in Cork city area.

As one of my predecessors informed the Deputy in a written reply on 22 May 1986, Official Report, Volume 366, No. 10, column 2143, design of a place of detention for young male offenders in Cork was well advanced before financial restraints interrupted work in the early eighties. The matter will be looked at afresh if financial resources of the dimension required become available in the future.
