Vol. 405 No. 2

Written Answers. - Taxi Licences.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Question:

100 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for the Environment if, having regard to the fact that the issuing of taxi licences took place in 1971, he intends to instruct Dublin Corporation to increase taxi licences in the Dublin area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As indicated in the reply to Question No. 12 of 6 February, I have decided to initiate a fundamental review of the law as it applies to the operation of small public service vehicles generally. I will announce details of the review procedure shortly.

Under the regulations currently in force it is a matter for Dublin Corporation to determine the number of licences which may be issued for the Dublin taximeter area and I have no power to give directions to the corporation in the matter.
