Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authorities' Art Budgets.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

257 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for the Environment the names and numbers of local authorities that maintain a budget for art activities; the amounts reserved for such programmes; and the amount to be funded by his Department in the current year.

Information on local authority arts budgets is not available in my Department. My Department have no specific allocation for the arts. However, a local authority may include an artistic feature in the cost of a grant aided capital project, e.g., a road or housing scheme, a library, fire station, etc., subject to a cost limit of 1 per cent of the approved overall cost of the scheme, or £20,000 whichever is the lesser.
