Vol. 405 No. 4

Written Answers. - Carriers' Interlining Agreement.

Ivan Yates

Question:

130 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if he has satisfied himself with the situation whereby there are no interlining arrangements between Aer Lingus, Ryanair and British Midland for flights between Ireland and the United Kingdom; and if he has any proposals to change this situation.

The decision by Aer Lingus to terminate its interlining agreement with British Midland is the subject of an investigation by the EC Commission under the competition rules of the Treaty of Rome on foot of a complaint from British Midland. British Midland's complaint is being contested by Aer Lingus.

My Department are monitoring the processing of this complaint and are also examining the question of an interlining agreement between Aer Lingus and Ryanair.
