Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - Amendment of Health Legislation.

Edward Nealon

Question:

93 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health whether he plans to amend the Health Act, 1970, in light of the recommendations of the Commission on Health Funding.

Legislative changes will be required to implement the new eligibility arrangements recommended by the Commission on Health Funding and announced in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress and these are currently being prepared in my Department.

The Government have also given a commitment in the programme to announce its proposals for improvements in the administration of the health services, an issue on which the commission also made recommendations and, depending on the outcome, these may require amendment of the Act.
