Vol. 406 No. 5

Written Answers. - House Maintenance Funding.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

70 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment if county councils will be permitted to fund housing maintenance work from the proportion they retain of the proceeds of house sales in order to halt the deterioration in the condition of the local authority housing stocks which has arisen due to the fact that only emergency repairs can be funded from current resources.

The management and maintenance, including repairs, of their dwellings are matters for local authorities to be funded by them from their own resources including 40 per cent of the proceeds of tenant purchase schemes and 100 per cent of their rental income from housing.
