Vol. 407 No. 1

Written Answers. - Driving Licence Application.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

244 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a returned emigrant with a full US driving licence cannot get a full driving licence in Ireland.

Under the terms of the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) Regulations 1989, only persons with driving licences issued in member states of the European Community and Japan may exchange such licences for equivalent Irish licences. I am reviewing the position with regard to licences issued in other countries.
