Vol. 407 No. 3

Written Answers. - Roads Expenditure.

Ivan Yates

Question:

175 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount of local authority finance spent on non-national primary and secondary roads each year since 1988 sourced from either (1) domestic rates, (2) support grants or (3) local authorities own revenue account; and if he will give the total expenditure on regional county and urban roads nationally from 1988 to date.

The only information available in my Department in the form requested by the Deputy is derived from the annual returns of expenditure by local authorities on the maintenance and improvement of public roads. Data for 1988 and 1989 are set out in the table below; comparable statistics for 1990 are not yet available.
