Vol. 407 No. 3

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Treatment.

Paul McGrath

Question:

204 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Health the number of children awaiting orthodontic treatment in the Midland Health Board area; the number who are currently receiving treatment; and the plans he has to clear the backlog of urgent cases.

I understand from the Midland Health Board that there are 860 children on the waiting list for orthodontic treatment in the Midland Health Board area while 176 children are under treatment at present.

The Deputy will be aware that the Government made a special allocation of £3 million available in 1990 to bring about improvements in adult dental and in orthodontic services and a further special allocation of £3 million for the same purpose in the present year. I am confident that this will bring about a significant improvement in services.
