Vol. 407 No. 3

Written Answers. - Public Safety Report.

Bernard Allen

Question:

205 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education when she will take action on the major report issued to eliminate the risk of a Hillsborough type stadium disaster; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

206 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Education the action she proposes to take on the Hamilton report on crowd control; and the likely time-scale for such action.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 205 and 206 together.

Arising from the report of the Hamilton Committee on Public Safety and Crowd Control the Government have decided that the Minister of State at my Department should co-ordinate the response of other Government Departments in implementing the recommendations contained in the report and giving effect to any necessary legislative changes.

Arrangements are being made at present for the preparation of a Code of Practice for Safety at Sports Grounds.

Consideration is also being given to the administrative and legislative arrangements which will be required to give effect to the other recommendations contained in the Report of the Hamilton Committee.
