59 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline his views on the findings of the report of the policy review group of his Department; if he will further outline the main findings of the report; the reforms, if any, the Government intend to introduce as a result of the report's recommendations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The report of the policy review group was published on 9 January 1991 and is on sale from the Government Publications sales office. Copies have been placed in the Oireachtas Library. The report contains a summary in which the main findings are outlined.
My Department are currently studying reactions to the report. The outcome of this examination will be taken into account in the context of the commitment given in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress that the Government will review all national policies relating to the agriculture and food sector and negotiate with the farm organisations a new development programme for the sector with the farm organisations, in the light of compensatory measures which may arise from the conclusion of the GATT negotiations.
