Question:

124 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Justice the total amounts paid in fines for traffic-related offences for each year from 1986 to 1990.

The amounts received by my Department and the Garda authorities in respect of court imposed fines for road traffic related legislation offences and for "fines-on-the-spot" notices for each of the years referred to in the question are as follows: 1986, £8.22 million; 1987, £7 million; 1988, £6.49 million; 1989, £7.13 million and 1990, £8.2 million.
