Vol. 409 No. 4

Written Answers. - Failed Companies.

Ivor Callely

Question:

179 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the proportion of companies that went into liquidation or receivership in 1990 and 1985 that had received State aid; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The following are the numbers of company liquidations and receiverships notified to the Registrar of Companies in respect of 1985 and 1990, in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Acts, 1963 to 1990:

Year

Liquidations

Receiverships

1985

632

165

1990

681

101

As the Companies Acts do not require the notification of data concerning State aid received, it is not possible for me to provide the percentage breakdowns requested by the Deputy.
