Vol. 409 No. 9

Written Answers. - Teacher Career Breaks-Permanent Posts.

John Bruton

Question:

150 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of career breaks and permanent jobs for teachers in the Diocese of Meath.

The details of career break applications received by my Department, in respect of teachers employed in national schools in the Diocese of Meath, for the 1991-92 school year are as follows:

Number of applications for a 1st career break 15.

Number of applications for an extension to a career break 35.

My Department estimate that there are approximately 25 permanent posts to be filled in national schools in the Diocese from 1 September 1991.

All vacancies for permanent teachers must be filled from the Diocesan Panel. Boards of management may only fill vacancies by open competition if the appropriate panel is clear. There are currently three teachers on the Catholic Diocesan Panel. The Church of Ireland Diocesan Panel is clear.
