Vol. 409 No. 10

Written Answers. - Longford Army Barracks.

Thomas Foxe

Question:

34 Mr. Foxe asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline the future role of the Connolly Army Barracks in Longford; if the present number of personnel engaged there will continue; if there are any plans for a reduction in personnel numbers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The 4th Cavarly Squadron of the Defence Forces are stationed at Connolly Barracks, Longford and their area of operations includes the Border region.

No change in this arrangement is contemplated.

It is not the practice, for security reasons, to disclose details of the number of military personnel stationed, or likely to be stationed, at any location.

I have recently inspected the facilities at this barracks and have instructed that arrangements be made immediately for the execution of certain engineering and refurbishment works there.
